A trip to the lake Tuusulanjärvi, the site of artists

With the arrival of warmer days, we started using our Škoda again, which opened up the possibilities of trips outside Helsinki. We took the chance and on Sunday we went to Halosenniemi by the lake Tuusulanjärvi.

Halosenniemi is a peninsula named after the Finnish painter Pekka Halonen. He lived there and his house is nowadays a museum, therefore open to the public. He even built the house himself. It felt intimate to have a glimpse into his home. That´s something for me. I like to see how people live, especially homes of artists are very interesting. This house is not an exception. It´s made from wood and it felt there very cosy. I had a feeling that there lived a happy family. I was especially enchanted by the living room with a huge window, by which was a long table with painting equipment.

From the window was an overwhelming view on Tuusulanjärvi lake. Great place for creating. I could very well imagine myself sitting there with a cup of coffee. Writing or editing my videos while my back would be nicely warming by the heat radiating from the fireplace. One must get a lot of inspiration there and an eager spirit to work.

On the walls there were plenty of paintings from Pekka Halonen including landscapes, home, and people. I liked very much the paintings from home, they had in them warmth and soft light. They were capturing a place where one feels safe and peaceful. Nearby the house was a sauna with an access to the lake. We were sitting there on a bench with our faces towards the sunshine. Not rushing anywhere.

In Tuusula area there was a whole artistic community. Other artists living there were composer Jean Sibelius, poet J. H. Erkko, journalist and writer Juhani Aho and painters Venny Soldan-Brofeldt and Eero Järnefelt. It's also possible to visit some homes of theirs, such as Ainola where Sibelius lived. Furthermore, it´s very nice place for a walk.

On the way back we stopped for coffee in the restaurant Kartano Järvenpää.

Some people were already sitting outside, but we rather went inside because the sun was still tricky.  When it hid, it was cold. It was very pleasant inside, on the walls were colourful paintings which we were admiring. I had good croissant and Petri his favourite munkki.
